The Astor Room - Astoria. Nestled downstairs, underneath the Kaufman Astoria studios in New York, the Astor Room's legacy dates back to the Roaring '20s.

Hollywood movie mogul Adolph Zucor build a movie studio in the quiet tree-lined residential neighborhood of Astoria, that would rival anything Los Angeles had to offer. Luminaries like Charlie Chaplin, Mary Pickford, Rudolph Valentino, Edward G. Robinson, W.C. Fields and the Marx brothers, flocked to Astoria to see what this new state-of-the-art studio was all about. Between takes on the upstairs movie set and after a long day of filming, the stars would head over to the studio commissary to refresh and replenish.

Many of the original architectural details can still be seen today in the Astor Room. When entering the premises, you will walk down the same marble staircase once trod upon by Gloria Swanson. The painted terra-cotta wall tiles and the Beaver Bar remain frozen in time. You never know just who will be joining the fun at the Astor Room for brunch or dinner. The Kaufman Studios are as busy as they were during the glory years of the '20s and '30s. George Clooney recently finished filming Money Monsters in and around the Kaufman studios.

Besides the unbeatable atmosphere, one of the primary reasons for its popularity is the menu and food. Culinary superstar in-the-making Chef Nathaniel "Natty" Felder is a wizard in the kitchen. Chef Nathaniel combines modern interpretations of classic comfort food dishes with an eye for eclectic, out-of-the-box creations. The menu also lists a surprise burger of the day and advises hungry customers to be "Scared of the chef's mood!" They do have quite a sense of humor at the Astor!
