Q.E.D. - Astoria

Q.E.D. - Astoria

Q.E.D. is an abbreviation of the Latin phrase "quod erat demonstrandum," which translates to "that which was demonstrated."

A longtime comedy club producer and promoter who is also a published author and public speaker, Kambri Crews is bringing fun and excitement back to Astoria with her venue Q.E.D. Kambri describes Q.E.D. as an after-school space for grown-ups, a place to show and tell that offers an extremely diverse lineup of comedy shows, musical performances, poetry slams, how-to classes and workshops. Other classes include arts and crafts, face painting, balloon twisting, paper mâché, knitting and crocheting, gardening and how to break into the standup comedy business.

Game nights are a fun way to meet new people, and storytelling events and children's sing-alongs are great for the entire family. Feedback from the community is very important to Kambri, and your ideas for future workshops and events are more than welcome. Let your creative side shine at Q.E.D.'s Drink N' Draw classes. It's a three-hour social event where participants focus on figure-drawing from a live model. The evening is hosted by local artists Sarah Bach and Kristen Drake. You don't have to be a professional artist to enjoy this class. Just bring along a pad, pencil and an open mind. The $10 entrance fee is a bargain and includes a beer, glass of wine or nonalcoholic beverage.

One show that you'll definitely want to check out, is New Release Day with host Christian Finnegan. You've seen Christian on shows like Best Week Ever, Are We There Yet? and the legendary Chapelle's Show. Every month Christian brings a few of his friends and colleagues from TV over to Q.E.D., where they will try out some of their new material... on you. Talk Therapy, a New York-centric storytelling and open mic show, is definitely one of Kambri's most interesting presentations. At Q.E.D., sometimes it's just about being with other people who share common interests.

That's why events like the Oscar Watch Party and Astoria Creatives Meet-Up are such a great hit. There's a bit of a café vibe going on at Q.E.D. as well. They offer a surprisingly varied menu featuring assorted pastries by Rose and Joe's and a light snack fair which includes, spinach and goat cheese salad, hummus with pita chips, falafel, wraps and sandwiches. Draft beer is provided by Astoria's celebrated Single Cut Brewery. Besides being a showcase for musicians and comedians, as well as hosting a multitude of workshops and classes taught by seasoned pros, Q.E.D. can put "You" in the spotlight.

The venue is the perfect place to host a viewing event, fashion show, corporate meeting or birthday party. And ther's good news for those of us on a budget. Kambri works closely with both performers and teachers to make sure that classes and shows are affordable and accessible to all. No doubt about it, every neighborhood should have their very own Q.E.D.!
