Brazilian Restaurants - Astoria

Best Authentic Brazilian Restaurants, Astoria. Rooted in most Brazilian restaurants in Astoria, a flourishing neighborhood in Queens, is a rich blend of tradition, culture, and passion for food the centuries-old gaucho way of life.

At one time, comfort food on a menu called to mind those wonderful dishes Mom and Grandma used to make. No matter how hard school was that day, when Mom placed a plate of her meatloaf, baked ziti or spinach pie in front of you, it brought a great big smile to your face.

Even as adults, we crave that old-fashioned home-style meal experience every once in a while. Trouble is, nowadays far too many chefs tend to place the comfort food label on esoteric dishes that turn out to be far from comforting. It makes no difference whether we hail from New York, New England, the Deep South, Europe or Asia.

We all have the unforgettable sights, smells and tastes of childhood family dinners that we carry in our hearts. Nowhere is the concept of comfort food more important, than in the culinary tradition and culture of Brazil.

Favela Grill - Astoria

Delicious with a difference. A table is waiting for you with truly authentic Brazilian home cooking, right here in Astoria at Favela Grill restaurant. Located at 33-18 28th Avenue, Favela is only a few blocks from the N/Q Train.

But really, it is a world away from the noise and hustle and bustle that is so New York. Favela has been pleasing hungry customers since they opened their doors in 2006. That's no small accomplishment in a city where trendy, flavor-of-the month restaurants come and go. The owners of Favela have lived in Astoria for many years. They're a part of our community. At Favela, it's not just about the food, mouth-watering as it is!

The team at Favela wants to immerse their valued customers in the culture and tradition of Brazil. From the outstanding decor to the live Brazilian music, you will feel as though you've left New York and found yourself in Rio.

Favela celebrates the family. The chef's emphasis is on simple, fresh meals, utilizing the highest-quality meats and produce, all brilliantly prepared. In English Favela translates to shantytown.  It is here, in the modest homes of the ever-resourceful indigenous families, where many of Brazil's most celebrated dishes originated. The chefs and grill masters at Favela will treat you to food that any Brazilian family would be proud to serve. And as you sit at your table and enjoy the atmosphere, you will be enveloped with a sense of aconchego, or coziness.

On Saturdays stop in and enjoy Brazil's national dish, Feijoada, which is a tasty pork stew, with almost everything but the kitchen sink inside it!

When you've wiped up the last morsel with a chunk of bread, be sure to stay and tap your foot to the live Brazilian sounds wafting through the air. You will not want to leave. Favela food tastes as good as Sergio Mendes plays the piano... and that's really saying something.

The kitchen crew are true maestros of the grill. Just taste their Costela Bam-Bam, prime rib beef slowly roasted and served with rice, beans, Farofa (yucca flour) and dressed in a vinaigrette sauce. The Frango a Parmegiana is the Brazilian take on an Italian classic chicken parm. Favela's version offers a cutlet of chicken, topped with sauce and cheese accompanied by okra and polenta. They also do a mixed grill with your choice of top sirloin, skirt steak, chicken or sausage.

If you enjoy a drink with dinner, the bartenders at Favela will accommodate both your taste and mood. Favela's wine list features quality domestic wines from California as well as imports from Chilean, Australian, Argentine and Brazilian vineyards.

Want to try something deliciously different? You can't go wrong with any of the umbrella drink selections that they offer. But do have the barkeep mix you up a refreshing Caipirinha. It's Brazil's national drink and for very good reason. No matter how much we secretly love it, we all get tired of the typical fast food midday meal.  Favela has a great reason to change up your routine.

The Feast is at the rear of the restaurant where the meats, salad bar and buffet stations are located. The staff here is quite helpful and will gladly describe the various dishes for newbies who are experiencing Brazilian buffet and BBQ for the first time.

The selection of seared meats from the BBQ grill is endless: spare ribs, sirloin steak, brisket of beef, pork loin, chicken wings, drums and thighs. Some of the buffet style dishes include lemon chicken, stuffed chicken, Beef Stroganoff, meatballs, short ribs stew with vegetables and fish with peppers, onions and sliced potatoes.

At Villa Brazil, it is recommended that you leave room for dessert. Your sweet tooth will regret it if you don't. For cheesecake lovers, they have it fresh-made, topped with passion fruit. The Black Forest cake and banana caramel cake are must-trys. Not a cake fan? The arroz doce (rice pudding) is amazing, as are the creamy but light as a feather mousses. You may choose from lemon, mango, passion fruit or chocolate. The bem casado (cookie sandwich) is so good it should become a tradition for dessert lovers, as it is in Brazil.

You can wash your feast down with a variety of fresh, healthy juices such as orange, pineapple, acerola (berry juice) or Acai (Brazilian blackberry juice).
