Foodies Tours NYC - Walking Tours
Best Walking Tours in New York City, NYC. Tourists and local enthusiastic foodies enjoy discovering that hidden gem of a restaurant, cafe, bistro or upscale pizzeria in NY that nobody knew about, until now.
Dawn Fishman, licensed NYC tour guide and experienced foodie, can take you and your palate to all of the city's best restaurants and little-known neighborhood secrets that you haven't had the time or know-how to discover. Featuring walking International tasting tours of Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn and the Bronx the savvy Dawn is certain to come up with something new to serve on your plate and enhance your passion for good food.
As a tour guide for Grey Line, Dawn delighted in showing tourists the sights of the city. It was interesting having the opportunity to meet people from so many different cultures and backgrounds. Dawn has always enjoyed sampling various ethnic cuisines, so being able to interact with visitors from all over the world was an added bonus.
Four years ago, Dawn decided that it was time for a career change and paralayed her love of cooking, tour guide experience and "get around" knowledge of the city, into the one-of-a-kind "Foodies Tour NYC." Whether it's Astoria or LIC, Queens, Williamsburg, Brooklyn or any of the boroughs, Dawn will take groups of 2-15 people on neighborhood-centric restaurant theme walks. On the tour, foodies will be able to sample entrees, appetizers and desserts from a carefully selected group of restaurants in a particular neighborhood. The tour is a colorful and tasty slice of the neighborhood lasting from two to three hours.
Only "A" rated restaurants, that Dawn has personally checked out, are included in the tours. Yes, atmosphere and great food are important, but cleanness and your health are paramount. Dawn has done around fifteen Foodie tours in Astoria and feels that it's one of the richest neighborhoods in terms of having great restaurants. One tour emphasized the diversity of cuisines in the area, taking in Greek, Italian, Colombian and Indian restaurants. At each place, the group is set up with a sampler that reflects the best of the menu. Dawn's tours allow you to experience great company together with some wonderful food. It's so much fun discovering new tastes and restaurants in a group of like-minded people.
A recent Taste of Flatbush tour took in Russian, Kosher Deli, Italian and Balkan cuisine. Also included was a visit to a chocolatier shop where all chocolates are made in-house. The art of making chocolate is a fascinating process worth experiencing. Personable and articulate, Dawn is just a lot of fun to be around. Her tours will connect you with food in a whole different way. It's not unusual for a chef to stop by the table and give everyone a behind the scenes look at the restaurant's kitchen, or share a couple of anecdotes.
Dawn's tour demographics range from young, potential Master Chefs, Juniors to Seniors; from hipsters to seasoned business executives. People have even celebrated birthdays and anniversaries on the tour. Indeed, these Foodie tours make for a great gift, especially for home cooks or anyone who loves to eat out. When Dawn is home, she loves to cook, preparing traditional family favorites, as well as experimenting with new recipes. Chilean Sea Bass over a bed of orzo pasta is one of Dawn's favorite dishes.
Dawn has a few tips when it comes to catching that perfect piece of fish at your local store or supermarket: no fishy or ammonia like smell in the shop. Avoid glassy-eyed fish and it should be firm to the touch. Only then do you make your selection, bring your catch home and enjoy.
Dawn is developing a Vegetarian Tour, a Bakery Tour and a tour of Sunnyside's best restaurants and gastropubs.
