Best Bars In Chelsea, New York

Chelsea is host to some of the best action-packed bars in NYC. On the Chelsea bar scene, the food menu is now equally important as is the drinks list.

Porchlight - Chelsea

With over thirty years as a celebrated restaurant impresario, it's hard to believe that Danny Meyer has never put his name on a stand-alone bar. After all, hospitality, might just as well be Danny Meyer's middle name. He knows a thing or two about running a successful, people-pleasing business.

Always seeking new challenges in the industry, Danny finally decided to take the leap and open Porchlight, which is not your standard, run-of-the-mill bar by any means.
Never content to do things by half-measures, Danny and his team have created a bar that has one of a kind food, drinks and atmosphere. Porchlight's sips and bites are inspired by the deep South.

PorchLight 0 HappyHour 10Cocktails

Your won't exactly feel like you're in a Southern honky tonk. The ambiance is a bit more upscale than that. But you will feel very comfortable here.
There's a reason why Esquire called Porchlight one of the 18 best bars in America and the Village Voice gave kudos to Porchlight for making their annual list of the top ten New York bars.

To start off, there's live music every Monday evening, from 6 to 9 PM.  Their ever evolving happy hour features deals such as a flask of house punch for just $5 as well as select spirits and cocktails for only $9.
Every day, Happy Hour presents a special beer and bite combo for the bargain price of $9.

Their drink list ranges from all time classics to nerdy stuff that the barkeeps came up with late at night. One of those experiments that succeeded is the creole negroni, a potent concoction of Clement Canne Bleue, Campari, Amaro Montenegro, sweet vermouth and absinthe.

PorchLight 1 HappyHour 10Cocktails
If you are looking to go classic, then try the Cosmopolitan, with vodka, Cointreau, cranberry juice and fresh citrus juice. Porchlight's version of the Gibson, consists of Plymouth gin, dry vermouth and pickled onion brine.

The chef makes it abundantly clear on his menu that his heart is in the Southern states. The chicken fried pork comes with savory sausage gravy, Texas toast and a fried egg. The bowl of chili is Texas-sized and the kitchen doesn't skimp on the cheddar cheese, sour cream or green onions.

Your tour of the South also includes stops in Cajun territory with the Louisiana crawfish fritters that are accompanied by lemon mayo
The signature plate here, though, is the Southern spread, which is a feast consisting of smoked catfish dip, Tasso, smoked cheddar, pickles, preserves and a bevy of Benne seed crackers. Always popular is the double trouble bison burger which is topped with pimento cheese, lettuce, tomato and Tasso.

You most definitely won't come away from Porchlight hungry or thirsty.

Le Pif - Chelsea

At Le Pif, wine is meant to be sipped slowly and savored. At Le Pif, the staff are serious about their wine, but, thankfully, they don't take themselves too seriously. This is a place where fun and  convivial conversation reigns supreme. And the wine is always free-flowing.

In case you were wondering, Le Pif is a distinctly French expression used to refer to a really nice wine. It is also a slang term for sommeliers.
The owners here believe that the best things in life, like friends and family, revolve around a delicious and soothing glass of wine. After all, there is no better party-starter or ice-breaker than  a glass (or two), of  wine.

LePifWineBar 1

Le Pif features reds and whites from all of the wine-producing regions of France. Even the romantic island of Corsica is represented.

As far as sustenance goes, Le Pif has a very varied menu. The kitchen turns out a tasty and filling cheese and charcuterie plate. But they also go way beyond the rather limited offerings that you will find at most wine bars.

On the lighter side, you can order a delicious fig salad with mixed greens, pine nuts, fresh mozzarella and red wine dressing. Soup selections include mushroom as well as a traditional French onion with Gruyere cheese, thyme and a fresh baked baguette.

Appetizers range from foie gras and escargots in butter sauce to Beef tartare with capers and sun-dried tomatoes.

LePifWineBar 1 PrixFixe25

Bistro-style entrιe highlights include Boeuf Bourguignon and a very nicely done chicken Provencal.

They keep things very casual here, but the ambiance is still date night romantic.

Pierre Loti Wine Bar 1 HappyHourWine

If you're hungry, you'll be happy to know that you can get some great food deals at the bar. They have a great cheese plate for ten bucks. For the same low price you can also order Pierre Loti's signature mixed appetizer platter with Hummus, Lebni, and beets plus eggplant caviar.

Feel free to strike up a conversation with the convivial after work crowd at the bar or just grab a table  and meet your friends for an unforgettable evening.
A fantastic drink list that features blended premium Scotches, an amazing array of beers and delicious cocktails is one of the reasons why Pierre Loti is so popular with people who live or work in Chelsea.

Want a "vacation" in a glass? Then try the Galata, a nifty cocktail made with Grey Goose vodka, muddled blackberries and St. Germain Elderflower liqueur. It's so very smooth and relaxing.

One of the bar's most refreshing cocktails is the Bubbles, a drink that brings Tanqueray gin, fresh lemon juice and simple syrup together with strawberries and a splash of sparkling wine.

Pierre Loti Wine Bar HappyHourWine

The kitchen turns out quite a few tasty appetizers and small plates. The Turkish beef dumplings are extremely popular with the guys and gals who are unwinding after work as is the grilled octopus.
Other note worthy menu items are the crispy risotto balls with goat cheese and spinach as well as the scrumptious zucchini pancakes. And don't forget to ask for extra Tzatziki sauce for your dipping pleasure.

A great way to end your meal here would be with a cup of their authentic Turkish coffee.

Sid Gold's Request Room - Chelsea

Don't be at a loss for words when the love of your life says "I'm so over doing delivery and Net Flicks movie night at home. Can't we do something different tonight?"

Well, now you have the answer to the same old/same old one that your significant other will just adore... an evening out at Sid Gold's Request Room.

SidGold 1

At Said Gold's, it's all about piano karaoke, cutting loose and having fun.

This elegant, tastefully decorated lounge takes you back to the 1950's and 60's when piano bars dotted the New York nightlife.
Sid Gold's is a contemporary take on the classic piano bars of yesteryear. But unlike the establishments of the "Mad Men" era, you won't hear any Broadway show tunes being belted out here. At Sid Gold's, the music leans more towards rock, pop and soul. And don't be surprised if you catch a heartfelt rendition of Billy Joel's "Piano Man" being performed from time to time.

The venue features an incredibly talented line-up of pianists who know how to entertain and host a not at all cheesy night of karaoke. Pianists such as the talented and personable Leslie Goshko will get you up from your table and singing your heart out in much less than a New York minute.

SidGold 2 HappyHourAndKaraoke

Sid Gold's was founded by two entrepreneurs who know the NYC music and club scene inside and out... Paul Devitt and Joe McGinty.
Joe in fact, spent five years as a member of the classic nineties rock band, The Psychedelic Furs.

The cocktail menu is  reasonably priced with most drinks coming in at only $13. Foremost among them is the Billy Rose (bourbon, lime, orange spiced liqueur) and the Violet  Siren, which consists of gin, pomegranate, grenadine and orange blossom.
You'll also love the infamously good Texas Porch Sipper which blends vodka, honey, mint and blackberries.

If you want to nosh between  doing your best Madonna or Billy Idol imitation, they do have a menu which, though kind of limited, does have a few tasty dishes. Their BBQ chicken sliders and house-blend meatballs with Marinara sauce and Parmigiana  will not disappoint.

SidGold 3 HappyHourAndKaraoke
The pizza here is surprisingly good, as well, especially the Les Paul (which features mushrooms, meatballs and mozzarella) and the Sgt. Pepperoni.
Dessert options range from house baked chocolate chip cookies to a thick, old fashioned black and white malted.

Cork Buzz -  Chelsea

Cork Buzz, a sleek, modern wine bar and restaurant, is generating a lot of buzz (if you'll pardon the pun), throughout Chelsea.
Located in the heart of the bustling and popular Chelsea Market, Cork Buzz provides an intriguing blend of great service, tasty tapas and premium wines, spirits and cocktails.
As we all know, the sprawling Chelsea Market is a foodie's paradise, so when you shop there, why not take a break and settle down for a delicious glass of wine at Cork Buzz?

CorkbuzzRestaurant happy hour

The bar itself is a breath taking display of edgy dιcor and ingenuity. Rows of wine glasses are displayed on pyramid and V shaped shelves, complemented by a theatrical lighting scheme.

They have a nice happy hour here, Monday through Friday from 12 to 5PM. On offer are selected reds, rose and whites for $8. Beers come in at just $4.

You can also take part in Cork Buzz's Champagne campaign. This very special deal gives customers half off all bottles of Champagne every night after 9 PM, Saturdays from 12 to 5 PM and all day on Sundays.

You'll be interested to know that Cork Buzz has an exciting line-up of wine classes that include the wines of New York State, rising vineyard stars and a tour of Italy.
Classes are taught by master sommelier Laura Maniec and her team. All classes include assorted cheeses and bread. There's nothing snobby about these classes. Beginners and wine novices are more than welcome. Who knows, you might just meet your next significant other while you learn about wine.

CorkbuzzRestaurant 1 happy hour

In addition to some very nice domestic selections, Cork Buzz offers wines from Austria, Greece, Germany, France and Italy. You can also indulge in some very nifty sherry and cider options.
Their cocktail list is limited, but it's good. The standout drink has to be the Gin and Juice which is a blend of Green Hook gin, concord grapes, fresh mint and soda. They also have a to-die-for Pomegranate daiquiri.

The menu encompasses a variety of tastes and flavors. Gourmet sandwiches are accompanied by a side salad. BY far the most popular are the sausage and salsa verde on a baguette, the portabello Panini and the pulled chicken sandwich with avocado mash and green apple cole slaw.
House-made ricotta, marinated olives and chicken liver mousse highlight the tapas plates.

The chef's market plates emphasize fresh ingredients direct from the Chelsea Market and local farms. The fennel and Burrata plate and warm Brussel sprouts dressed with Parmesan, bacon and bread crumbs are both must-haves.

Bar Veloce - Chelsea

Bar Veloce is inspired by the charming Enotecas, (wine bars) that you will find in Rome. The atmosphere here is very chill with a distinct European flair.
More over, Bar Veloce offers a nice selection of wines from Italy's different regions, all at very approachable price points. You won't break the bank by spending an evening here, yet, when it comes to food or drink, quality is never compromised.

Their Italian-style Happy Hour, from 5 to 7 PM daily, features a glass of Prosecco for a very fair $7.

BarVeloce 0

The food at Bar Veloce  is mostly  small plates and antipasto. But the limited menu has many delicious offerings and the food being served pairs perfectly with wine.
Bruschette  is a specialty of the house. You can't go wrong if you choose the black olive tapenade or the prosciutto di Parma options. But most  regulars tend to go for the signature bruschetta veloce with anchovies, capers, mozzarella and a tasty mint pesto.

For larger appetites, pair your glass of vino with one of their small plates or Italian tapas options.

BarVeloce 1 happy hour prosecco 5pm 7pm daily
The truffled cheese melt is a blend of no less than five cheeses dressed with truffle oil. It's simply outrageous. The Sicilian style tuna with white beans, pecorino cheese, vine tomatoes and black pepper is satisfying but light. If you want to change things up from Prosciutto, then you have got to try the sopressata (spicy salami), which is served with radicchio and peppers.
Another option is tacchino which is Italian seasoned turkey with provolone cheese, figs, roasted pine nuts and Rosemary.
