Celebrate Saint Patrick's Day in Astoria, NY
Do right by your love and pals. Avoid the maddening crowds in the city on Saint Patty's Day and head on over to the relative serenity of Astoria.
Daly's Pub - Astoria
Located just a few steps from the Broadway N and W train station, Daly's Pub could not be more convenient or welcoming.
The super-friendly staff takes their cue from the owner Ruari Daly. A resident of Queens since 2001, Ruari, ( pronounced Rory), knows a thing or two about running a bar and just how to make his customers happy.
A former construction worker, Ruari transitioned into the pub scene and put in his time as a bartender for many years.
Eventually, in 2009, Ruari decided that the time was right to open his own place and Daly's Pub was born in the Autumn of 2009.
There is absolutely no need to wait until Saint Patrick's Day to visit this amazing Irish pub. Get yourself over there as soon as you can !
Daly's Pub is not that large but it's HUGE in personality and warmth. It is the bar where everyone knows your name.
During the colder months you can enjoy a pint of local or imported beer right beside a glowing fireplace. And, when the weather turns nice, take your pint over to their cozy, enclosed outdoor patio and forget about your cares.
Play darts and test your trivia skills against your fellow patrons who, not surprisingly, will probably end up being your new friends.
There's even a state of the art "jukebox" if you're in the mood for a little music. Now, this isn't your Mum or Dad's old-school jukebox. This particular jukebox enables you to play songs by downloading the app directly to your phone.
In addition to a stellar selection of brews,Scotch,Bourbon and Irish Whiskey, Daly's Pub offers an incomparable Bloody Mary. In fact, their Bloody Mary was voted the best in NYC by the Daily News. So, don't miss out !
The only drawback here is that they don't have a kitchen. nevertheless, though, Ruari and his wife Sandy DO offer complimentary grub at their Holiday parties ,( think Saint Patty's Day !) and special events.

McCann's Pub and Grill - Astoria
A quintessential Irish sports bar, McCann's has count 'em, 21 HD-TV's that make it ever so easy for you to cheer on your favorite team.
But, though the atmosphere here may be lively; it's never rowdy or over the top. You will have peace of mind meeting your significant other here for a drink or dinner, after work.
McCann's is definitely one of the most attractive bars in Astoria, with quaint stone walls, subdued lighting and cozy booths.
The spacious bar has plenty of elbow room, so you won't feel crowded,no matter how busy the place gets.
As would any self-respecting pub, McCann's carries an enviable selection of beer, wine and spirits. However, what separates McCann's from the rest are their superb cocktails.
The bar's mixed drinks change seasonally and are quite creative. There's a glass of joy for everyone.
The Strawberry Juice Collins features strawberry-infused vodka,Triple Sec, cranberry juice and a twist of lemon.
Refreshing and delicious, the Apple Juice Spritz blends apple-infused vodka and elder flower liqueur with a splash of orange juice and club soda.
Perhaps their standout drink, though, is the fabulous Eggnog Martini. This concoction is made with vanilla vodka, almond flavored liqueur, eggnog and caramel syrup. The drink is served chilled and your glass is rimmed with Graham Crackers.
At McCann's Bar and Grill, they are always cooking up something special and Saint Patrick's Day is certainly no exception.
While celebrating the patron Saint of Ireland with your friends, you might want to order a platter of the scrumptious Irish Chips. Consisting of potato chips, corned beef and an incredible Guinness Beer cheese sauce, this dish makes for a great change of pace from the usual loaded nachos that most bars offer.
Another great appetizer are the Irish Croquettes, made with corned beef, sauerkraut, potato and cheddar cheese.
Entrees range from country-style Shepard's Pie and Fish n' Chips to a surprisingly good Penne A La Vodka.
Pro tip ; the kitchen at McCann's is known for its' burgers so plan to try one during your visit .
All burgers are 100% Angus beef and are served on a warm brioche bun. you may, however, substitute an outrageous pretzel bun for just 95 cents.
Your juicy burger comes with house-made cole slaw, hand-cut fries and an onion ring. Who does that anymore? Onion rings seem to have become a thing of the past at most bars and coffee shops. That's just not right !
With a dozen varieties to choose from you'll never suffer from burger boredom.
Two of the best are the Jam Burger, ( topped with sauteed onions, bacon jam and Mozzarella cheese), and the Big McCann, which consists of two patties,American cheese, onions, lettuce and tomato.
Know this now ; you will never go hungry or thirsty at McCann's Pub and Grill.

The ambiance is quite charming with a classic Irish pub style wood bar, brick walls and sturdy ceiling beams. The Astorian - Astoria
This artfully designed watering hole is an intriguing contemporary take on a classic Irish pub.
There is a very fresh and hip groove going on here. Just as soon as you walk through the door, you get a feel or vibe that sets The Astorian apart from the more traditional kind of Gaelic bar.
The first floor is fairly spacious with a cozy dining area towards the back. But the real visual feast takes place upstairs.
A "secret" staircase leads to an intimate lounge. Candle light casts a soft glow on a room that will instantly change your mood. no matter what kind of day you may be having, all will be right with your world, from the moment that you are seduced by the charming ambiance.
Recline and chill on one of the soft and comfy couches while the sounds of hip-hop or classic swing music waft through the air. Gaze upon walls that have been splashed with a myriad of colors and graffiti, courtesy of a local street artist.
No matter what floor you choose to spend the evening, you will relish the experience.
Happy Hour takes place all day every Monday and from open until 8 PM,Tuesday through Friday. Patrons will enjoy $2 off all signature cocktails, draft beer and wine.
But, the fun doesn't stop there. The main floor hosts live music, from time to time
and, you can also attend Sauced Cinemas' interactive screenings which feature trivia, drinking games and prizes galore.
The flicks are shown in the rear dining area, so be sure to keep an eye out for your favorite cult or classic film coming to The Astorian.
Your Instagram will love the fact that the cocktails here are as pretty as a picture. And they taste just as good as they look .
The Hibiscus Mistress is made with Exotico Reposado,Hibiscus, fresh muddled ginger and ,aperol as well as lime and grapefruit juice.
Another strong contender for best drink in Astoria is the Basil Instinct, a soothing beverage that's composed of Hayman's Old Tom Gin,basil, aperol, demerara and lemon juice.
One of the more creative libations on the Astorian's cocktail list is the John Muir Old Fashioned which mixes Redwood Empire Bourbon with orange and aromatic bitters together with honey. Just a dash mind you! It's not overly sweet.
When it comes to enjoying a Saint Patty's Day feast , date night or some time spent with your best friends, even the most loyal Irish guy and gal isn't in the mood for corned beef and cabbage or bangers and mashed, all the time. They want something different.
Well, different is the byword for The Astorian's captivating menu. You can expect a ton of variety together with quite a few unexpected twists and turns.
A great place to start is with the delectable Eggplant Meatballs. Topped with a basil pomodoro sauce, shredded veggies and melted Parmesan, you wouldn't know , ( or care) that there isn't a sliver of meat on your plate.
Another taste sensation are the Scotch Bonnet sliders. Made with spicy,well-seasoned beef, sharp cheddar, whiskey sour pickles and a garlic aioli, this dish is one that you won't be able to stop eating.
Other points of interest on the menu include a warm roast beef sandwich that is layered with caramelized onions, provolone cheese, earthy mushrooms and a horseradish cream sauce.
Oh,by the way, if you're into french fries then you simply have to check out their Canadian Poutine. Your freshly cut fries, made from REAL potatoes, are crowned with a demi-glace and cheddar cheese curds.

This delightful pub has been a neighborhood staple for just about as long as anyone can remember.
Yet, things never get stale here. By staying true to a tradition of unparalleled customer service, hearty pub grub and an honest pour,Cronin and Phelan has won over generations of locals who know a good thing when they see it.

Many of the staff , from bartenders to servers, have been here for years. They are like family . And the Cronin and Phelan team is beyond proud to welcome you to their establishment, whether you are a long-time customer or someone who is new to the place.

On Saint Patty's Day, the kitchen turns out all of the traditional dishes that you've come to expect on this holiday such as corned beef and cabbage. And there are plenty of beers on tap and top-shelf spirits with which to celebrate.
However, their everyday menu kicks things up a notch with innovative dishes that will tempt all of your senses.
Their signature offering, without a doubt, is the Jameson Chicken. This dish features a succulent, tender and juicy breast of chicken sauteed with mushrooms and onions in an Irish whiskey cream sauce. Your plate is finished with the potato and vegetable of the day.
In addition to Irish chicken curry and broiled salmon, the kitchen turns out a completely unexpected but heavenly Asian stir-fry with mushrooms, peppers and onions over rice, topped off with a very nice Teriyaki sauce.
Do NOT leave without trying one of their fabulous desserts like the indulgent and satisfying triple chocolate mousse or the super-popular strawberry and rhubarb pie that comes with your choice of freshly made whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
