Located in the historic Kaufman-Astoria Studios, The Astor Room is one of the most glamorous destination dining restaurants in Astoria or anywhere else in the city, for that matter.

Chef Nathaniel "Natty" Felder and his team will go out of their way to make sure that you are not only, well-fed, but treated like a movie star. Everyone is made to feel special at this restaurant which, decades ago, was the  studio commissary where silver screen legends like Rudolph Valentino and Mary Pickford enjoyed lunch and dinner while filming.

Once you and your date descend the staircase into the Astor Room, you will immediately  be enveloped by the glitz and glamor of a bygone era. The chic décor is vintage with some very trendy contemporary touches. Looking around, you'll know why stars like Clark Gable felt at home here, whenever they  visited New York. You will, as well. Despite  the constant  presence of Hollywood royalty, everywhere you turn, The Astor Room has a relaxed, comforting feel to it.

Chef Nattys' dishes are creative with an emphasis on fresh, locally sourced ingredients. His menus change with the Seasons, so there is always a new reason to make a reservation to see and taste what's going on in the kitchen. The results will surprise and delight you. Chefs menu is a blend of Asian, Italian, French and Southern-style cooking. The word delicious doesn't even begin to define the culinary feast for the senses, that is in store for you.

Start your meal off right with a plate of Chefs stuffed Anaheim peppers, with goat cheese and sausage in a delightful red wine and veal sauce. The fried shrimp come with a not too spicy Calabria pepper slaw, jicama and a side of cabbage. There's a nice selection of pasta dishes, including mushroom linguini, Mac and Cheese with a velvety béchamel sauce and a Farmers' Pasta, which consists of pork sausage, white beans, spinach and white wine with a tasteful dusting of Parmesan cheese. The lasagna of the day can be anything and everything. Allow the Chef to surprise you and you'll not be disappointed.

No one, not even the French, do a plate of Steak Frites like Chef Natty. Your dish is filled with slices of prime NY strip along with hand=cut thyme fries. The meat is dressed in a brandy peppercorn sauce. A wonderful white meat option is the pork chop cassoulet with white kidney beans, fennel and pancetta. The seared scallops are served alongside sautéed collard greens, jalapenos, orange segments and just a few drops of olive oil, which adds so very much to this dish.

There are also some very nice chicken and fish dishes on the menu, as well as the signature Astor Burger. Cooked to your liking, this savory burger is crowned with a Portobello cap and mustard aioli with a side of housemade cole slaw and French fries. Regulars rave about the ingenious sides like Quinoa with cranberries and mint, the sour cream grits (as heavenly as they sound), and the Brussel sprouts with bacon marmalade. The old-time movie stars certainly enjoyed having a cocktail or two or three between takes on the set. You will absolutely adore the Astor Room's cocktail menu. As with the food, the ingredients that go into their signature and classic cocktails are fresh and local. The Queens road is a blend of Cruzan dark rum, fresh Ginger, honey syrup, angostura bitters as well as fresh squeezed orange and lime juice. The refreshing Georgia  Georgia  consists of Ford's Gin, fresh  basil , rosemary syrup, lime juice Fee Brothers orange bitters and a soda float. Ah yes, a good time will be had by all!

Live music is an important part of your Astor Room experience. On Friday through Sunday, the Astor presents smooth and sexy cocktail music for your listening pleasure. The Astor's talented pianist provides the perfect melodic background to date night. Brunch is always a very special occasion here. The Jazz Age comes to life with the Astor's Jazz Brunch. As you dine on breakfast delectable and a bevy of sweet treats, the lively jazz band will get your toes tapping. Why not let the music move you and get up and dance ? We only live once.

And, more than anything else, that's what the Astor Room is, a celebration of life and all that is good about it!
