No matter what time of the year it may be, there's always something new and exciting happening at MP Taverna. With the change of Seasons, Chef Michael re-invents his menu, adding a selection of new, seasonal dishes to complement menu favorites that never go out of style. Using only the freshest ingredients available, Chef Michael and his team of sous chefs incorporate veggies and fruits from local farms into their delectable dishes. The pick of the Season's harvest makes your meal special.
MP Taverna's décor and ambiance works together with the seasons to create an unforgettable dining experience. During the Summer months, you can enjoy Chef's modern interpretation of traditional Greek comfort food, outdoors on the patio. When Autumn's cool, crisp air takes over, settle down inside the Taverna's cozy and intimate dining area or bar. Sip a seasonally inspired cocktail while you await your meal and people watch, if you're lucky enough to grab a table beside the gorgeous floor to ceiling windows.
When Winter hits the streets of Astoria, head on over to MP Taverna and warm up with Chef Michael's signature lamb shank with orzo and seasonal root vegetables or the roasted lemon chicken. Seasoned Greek style, the herbs and lemony flavor, accent, but never overpower the taste of the chicken.
When Spring comes along and the flowers begin to bloom, celebrate with a family dinner at MP Taverna. Join in the fun and the spirit of things. Be an honorary Greek for the afternoon or evening. Spring is the time that Easter is celebrated in Chef Michael's household and in Greek communities across, not only America, but the world.
Chef Michael will, upon request, roast an entire animal for your family or group. This is a multi-generational tradition in Greece, and after you taste this meal, it will become a part of your family's tradition as well. You may choose from a whole fish, baby lamb, a suckling pig, kid Goat or a savory rack of Rib Steak.
Winter, Spring, Summer or Fall, Brunch is always worth doing at MP Taverna. The menu features some American brunch favorites cooked with a bit of a Greek twist. Your poached eggs are made with spinach, Graviera cheese and a touch of béchamel. Chef Michael's scrambled eggs are tossed with tomato and feta cheese. One of the most popular brunch items is the Cast Iron breakfast. Served up in a skillet, country-style, this feast contains three baked eggs, Greek pork sausage, bacon, roasted tomatoes, garlic, potatoes a la plancha and a side of, not your usual toast, but grilled Pita.
Happy Hour at MP Taverna is as joyous and friendly as you would expect from a master chef who places hospitality at the very top of his menu. When twilight falls, all beers on tap are half price. House reds and whites go for only Five dollars. The bar's specialty cocktails have a wonderful Greek feel to them with a delicious glass of Angouri and a Hellenic Margarita among the highlights.
Bar bites include a duo of mini-souvlaki for only $4.95, dollar Oysters and a really good spiced Gyro slider for a buck fifty. At MP Taverna, value comes along with great taste.
Open for lunch, dinner and weekend brunch, MP Taverna’s accessible menu offers mezes and salads like Crispy Cod with garlic, potato puree and tomato sauce; Octopus with a Mediterranean chickpea salad; Tomato Salad, string beans, grilled onions and Bulghar Salad with dates, almonds, pomegranate, olives and pistachios. Chef’s signature dips include Eggplant with roasted peppers and garlic; Yogurt with cucumber and dill and Feta with spicy chilies and herbs. Signature entrees available are Grilled Branzino with fingerling potatoes, cherry tomatoes and olives; Lamb Shank with orzo and root vegetables in a lamb jus and Greek Paella comprised of shellfish, spicy lamb sausage and orzo. Simply grilled options include Chicken, Salmon, Swordfish and a “Fish of the Day.”
Weekend brunch features sweet and savory items like Ricotta Pancakes with caramelized apple, almonds, raisins and zabaglione sauce and Roasted Tomato skillet-baked eggs with sheep’s milk ricotta, Graviera, basil and garlic. Honoring the Greek tradition of food as a vehicle for gathering friends and family, Psilakis also offers roasted whole animals for large groups.
Choices include Whole Fish, Baby Lamb, Suckling Pig, Kid Goat and Rack of Rib Steak. A late-night menu and happy hour specials are available daily. The value-driven wine list offers more than 50 bottles by the glass and a selection of 70 local and international craft beers are available on draft as well as by the bottle. Twenty artisanal beers are on tap including local favorites SingleCut Beersmiths and Rockaway Brewing Company as well as one international craft brewery, Schneider Aventinus. The restaurant also boasts a vast selection of more than 120 whiskies.
The interiors and ambiance of the 150-seat bi-level restaurant were designed by Michael David Associates in collaboration with Psilakis. The ground floor exudes a casual, industrial feel, replete with wood paneling and iron chairs. Glass accordion doors will open during the warmer months and a patio providing seating for 100 additional diners. For a more intimate feel, the second floor is outfitted with luxurious leather chairs, chandeliers over each table and floor-to-ceiling windows.
MP Taverna still serves the late night menu until 2am on Friday and Saturday, however dinner service ends at 11pm Monday – Thursday and 10pm on Sunday.
