Life Health & Fitness - Astoria, NY. Recently, we had the pleasure of visiting with the crew at Life Health & Fitness located at the legendary Kaufman Astoria Studios.

We have been in a lot of Astoria gyms and Life Fitness & Health is totally unique. According to Lisa, one of the Life Fitness Staffers, "Our mission is the internal health and well-being of our members." On the lounge area blackboard, owner Sophocles Tsouros has a great saying: "A healthy body inspires a healthy mind."  Soph works out several times per week. A lifelong athlete, Sophocles espouses exercise as the best preventative medicine that you can do for yourself! 

All too often, when seeking a gym to call home, Astorians find that some gyms cater only to hardcore muscle fanatics, while so-called "family friendly" fitness centers can lack basic amenities or up-to-date equipment.

Life Fitness is a beautiful, state-of-the-art place where everyone can have fun getting healthy. Lisa told us that they have a very diverse membership - men and women from 18-78. It's all about building a sense of trust and community. Best of all, they are aninsurance-friendly gym, too. Their total body modification program lasts 12 weeks and, believe us, you will not get bored. It includes one-on-one personal training sessions massage therapy, chiropractic care as well as dietary and nutritional counseling. The desk promoters are friendly and knowledgeable.

Life's trainers are all top-notch, including Edwin. A former U.S. Marine, Edwin considers himself to be a motivator and caregiver for his clients and gym members. Never too busy to answer a question, Edwin trains his clients at their pace, moving them along in a comfortable fashion, yet getting the desired results! Try finding that kind of personal attention in one of those commercial box gyms.

Now come inside Life Health & Fitness for a tour. You will find a gym worthy of its motion picture studio complex location. Gym members can read, go on their phone or just relax in a lounge that resembles an upscale, trendy living room. And you might catch one of the trainers, sitting there with their PC, prepping for a client session. Heading past the well-stocked water and juice area, we go over to the gorgeous glass studios. These spacious studios feature classes for cycling, yoga Pilates, kick-boxing, stick-fighting and a SilverSneakers program. 

Function, an expert chiropractic office is also on the premises. The workout area is bright, clean and cheerful. You will find all the in-demand weights and treadmill/cardio equipment including hammer strength seated calf and squat excercise machines.

Owner Sophocles is a big supporter of local charitable endeavors and the gym also offers special rates to firefighters, EMTs, law enforcement, students, teachers, the military and MTA workers.
