Tufino Pizzeria Napoletana - Astoria, NY. Tufino in Astoria, is family owned and operated to ensure that the highest standards of Neapolitan authenticity are met. Our custom Stefano Ferrara oven was hand built in Naples-Italy, using volcanic lava ash from Mt. Vesuvius. This oven brings us a unique and authentic flavor that is only found in Italy. Our dough is made in house daily and is naturally leavened, a method that is over 200 years old that was used by the first Pizzaiolos of Naples.

What is the secret of the delicious taste and  tender texture of  the pizza that is served at Tufino Pizzeria Napoletana in Astoria.

The secret is in the oven and the dough that they use. Tufino's custom-made Stefano Ferrara wood-burning oven was hand-built in Naples, using volcanic lava ash from Mount Vesuvius. This type of oven, which is standard in Neapolitan pizzerias, lends a very distinctive flavor to your pie.

The second part of the equation is the dough. Made fresh, every day, Tufino's pizza craftsmen, make their dough from imported flour and it is naturally leavened over three days. The pizzaiolos here stay true to the Neapolitan tradition, where making pizza is an art. This is as an authentic slice as you would enjoy were you dining in Naples.

But, as great as their pies are, Tufino's is about more than just pizza! Pasta is made in-house here and you can definitely taste the difference. Their hand-crafted ravioli is stuffed with sautéed mushrooms, truffle-infused olive oil and ricotta in a tarragon butter sauce. save a piece of bread. You will want to sop up every last drop of this luscious sauce. The kitchen's fusilli with a  traditional Bolognese meat sauce is savory and filling. The piece' de resistance, though, may be the Marscapone Farfalle pasta. The bow-tie pasta is tossed with roasted mushrooms, asparagus and toasted walnuts inside of a Marscapone cream sauce.

Bored with the same old eggs Benedict type of brunch? Tufino's is now serving brunch, every Saturday and Sunday from 12-5 PM. And what an Italian feast it is!

Starters include such antipasti favorites as grilled polenta with herbs and asparagus spears, grilled eggplant rollatini and  mushrooms stuffed with pecorino Romano cheese, bread crumbs, parsley and evoo. All of Tufino's frittatas are made with organic, free-range chicken eggs and are served with Parmesan-truffle potatoes. beats plain, old  home fries, any day, right? Frittata options include some pretty interesting choices such as  basil, Fior di latte and penne pasta, Spinach and zucchini, sausage, fire roasted peppers and onions and Prosciutto and tomato. You can't go wrong with any of these Italian brunch delights.

When you brunch here, though, you will never forgive yourself if you don't try  their signature Egg Sheeran pizza. This pie consists of fior Di Latte, Fontina cheese, fennel sausage, Pancetta, leeks, two sunny-side up organic eggs and a hint of milled black pepper. Standout salads include the refreshing shaved pear, wilted spinach with Pancetta and  the tomato and Mozzarella bowl which comes with olives, and roasted garlic in a balsamic vinaigrette.

Bottomless Mimosas can be had for only $8. Prosecco is available for brunch-goers at $6 a glass or $22 for a bottle. Red or white Sangria will set you back just $5 per glass. The atmosphere is quite casual. You will feel very comfortable taking your family here for a night out or  brunching with your significant other.

Family-owned, the proprietors keep the place spotless. They take a great deal of pride in serving you and it shows. Attention to detail and genuinely warm, Italian hospitality wins the day along with the heart of your customers, every time!

I love the pizza at Tufino, but I am a big fan oven brick oven thin crust pizza. If you like thin crust this is the place. Maybe it's the special Italian oven they use, or maybe the staff is very talented, but whichever it is, the pizza is divine. They also have a good selection of red wines. Hard to say this, but it even beats Milkflower...
