Michael Mansfield has a long and successful track record in the hospitality business. Along with his business partners, Michael owns two extremely popular pubs in Queens: The Cuckoo's Nest in Woodside and Forest Hills destination  bar, Banter

Now, you could chalk up this rousing success, in a highly competitive industry, to the luck of the Irish. But that would be too easy. Michael's popular pubs owe more to other sterling qualities that the Irish possess, a propensity for hard work and perseverance. These qualities are on display at Michael's newest venture Passage, an Irish gastropub located in  the heart of Astoria.

Named for a small fishing village in Waterford, Ireland, Passage is all about comfort, both in its ambiance and food. If you have ever been to the Emerald Isle on holiday, you will know just what we are talking about. Stop into just about any rural pub and you will be welcomed with wide open arms. The beers and whiskeys will quench your thirst and the food is beyond delicious. That's not some empty marketing formula. That is the way of life that Michael knew, growing up in Ireland. And that sincere hospitality along with tasty, well put-together dishes are what you get at Passage.

When you sit down at the table and peruse their menu, you really won't know what to order first, everything sounds so delicious. Whether you are ravenously hungry and desire an all-out Irish breakfast platter or just want a small plate to accompany your glass of craft beer, the kitchen has got you covered. Outstanding small plate selections include curry cheese fries, house made devilishly delicious Scotch eggs, apple and black pudding fritters and Passage's Mussel bowl that comes with your choice of Guinness, Irish curry or Buffalo sauce. Of course, you can't dine here without trying the fabulous Bubble and Squeak dumplings, which are stuffed with  corned beef, cabbage and carrots with a mustard drizzle.

Eating healthy? Then one of Michael's signature salads has definitely got your name on it. The blueberry vanilla goat cheese salad with cranberries, walnuts and mixed greens will satisfy even hard-core meat-lovers. Another great  green option is the signature Parmesan cheese and pine nuts over baby greens salad. Mains include traditional Irish stew, pan roasted salmon, curried shepherd's pie and a savory beef and Guinness pie. If you're a fan of a well-made, juicy burger then you've come to the right place. Their black pudding burger is topped with sautéed onions and Portobello mushrooms along with a fried egg. Michael has even brought his signature Banter burger over to Astoria. This red onion blended burger is topped with pepper jack cheese and a creamy chipotle mayo. Remember to request a little extra mayo, you'll just love it. In many foodie circles, 30th avenue is affectionately known as Astoria's version of  Manhattan's fabled Restaurant Row. Bring your family, bring your friends, at Passage you will all feel at home.

Passage East is well known as the entry port for Strongbow's voyage into Ireland in 1169. In modern times it has progressed as a ferry port to Wexford but still keeps the feel of an old Irish village. Passage Astoria intends to do the same by combining the famous Irish pub atmosphere with modern takes on Irish food and drink. In this way we pay homage to the traditional Irish pub. As the centennial of the Easter Rising approaches we are particularly proud to bring the next step of Irish pub culture to Astoria.
