Katch Astoria - 2016 Review

Seasonal suds, cocktails and bites at Katch in Astoria. Winter, Spring, Summer or Fall. All you have to do is just call and you've got a friend." Those touching and timeless words, sung by the legendary James Taylor still resonate with people today. You could use those same lyrics to describe the feeling one gets at Katch, one of Astoria's trendiest spots for great sips and bites.

No matter what the season happens to be, Katch has  got you covered with a rotating menu of craft beer, cocktails and delicious food. Customer favorites will always stay on the menu. The folks at Katch love your feedback. But, as many of their food and cocktail ingredients are locally sourced from farms and purveyors, some menu and drink list offerings change with the seasons. Taste and mood also come into play. What you like to drink on a chilly late Autumn day isn't necessarily what you are in the mood for in the middle of Summer.

This is the minute attention to detail that has become a way of life at Katch. Behind the bar and in the kitchen, these folks know just what's up.

The highlight of the Summer Season is Katch's 2,500 square foot beer garden. This lovely and spacious area is fenced in for privacy, making it a world away from the traffic and noise along 30th Avenue. You can enjoy scrumptious food together with an ice-cold cocktail or craft beer amidst bucolic greenery, shady umbrellas, picnic tables and planters filled with flowers and small trees. With the friendly service and  delicious food that is available, you'll feel as though you are relaxing and enjoying life out on your best friend's patio.

No matter what season it is, Katch  always has a wealth of Happy Hour specials, trivia nights, live musical performances by local bands and DJ sets to keep you entertained and happy. And please don't forget about their weekend bottomless brunch.

Their beer men ranges from easy drinking suds such as Stella Artois and Six Point Sweet Action to Aromatic beers (Abita Purple Haze) as well as a multitude of beers on tap. Don't fret, they won't run out of Mike's Hard Lemonade, which is with good reason, one of their most popular drinks. When you order from the Katch Kocktail bar, try either their Unkommon sangria (with red wine and fresh fruit) in a 22 oz. schooner or the Iced Koffee and Kreme which contains patron xo café and Bailey's Irish cream with iced coffee.

Brunch is always a great time, especially when you do it at Katch. The menu is innovative and exciting. Small plates and starters include  cheesesteak rolls, southern fried chicken fingers, shrimp ceviche and their signature Katch Poutine. This is a Canadian dish with Katch's own twist to it. You will love the hand cut fries that are drenched in brown gravy, pulled pork and Wisconsin cheese curds. When you purchase any brunch entrée, you can, for an additional $18, indulge in their ninety minute bottomless brunch. Choose from the beer of the day or traditional brunch drinks like a mimosa, sangria, margarita, prosecco or Bellini.

All of your favorite brunch options are here including eggs benedict, lemon ricotta pancakes and omelletes. They also have a few dishes that are distinctively Katch like the shrimp and grits, chicken and waffles with house-made bourbon butter and organic avocado toast. The Katch Burger will satisfy your craving for something savory. Your juicy burger is topped with an over easy egg, cheddar cheese, apple wood smoked bacon, baby farm greens and chorizo aioli.

Katch is all about living life to the fullest and celebrating good times with friend

Katch Grill has been a mainstay on the Astoria craft beer and social scene for several years now. It's not hard to see the reason why. There's over two thousand square feet of fun to be had, here. Let's talk about an uber impressive forty-foot bar, staffed by expert mixologists, lighting to suit your every mood, a plush, lounge-like banquette area and over 70 HDTV's. There's also more than enough tables to comfortably accommodate you and all of your friends. There are many great places in Astoria where you can grab a beer and a quality hamburger. But when it comes to destination dining and an unmatched selection of craft beers, this is one place that you need to keep in mind.

With over fifty craft beers on tap and a classic menu of American food, with a distinct and delicious Katch twist, the Katch team knows exactly what you need to relax and rejuvenate after a long day.

During the Summer, the excitement level kicks up a notch or two, when Katch opens up their beautiful outdoor beer garden. The picnic tables, craft beers, great eats amidst flowers and greenery, combine to create the ideal oasis, far away from the hustle and bustle of 30th Avenue.

But, you don't have to wait until the warm weather arrives to experience what Katch is all about. There is always something new and exciting here. Singlecut Brewery sponsors Trivia Tuesdays. Have fun, play some exciting trivia games and sample the craft brews that Singlecut is famous for. From 7 PM to midnight, all Singlecut brews are only five dollars. Wednesdays are Five dollar Burger nights, featuring Katch's special Pat Lafrieda blend.

On Thursday nights, Astoria's ladies reign supreme, with half price cocktails from 7 PM until lights out. Fridays, go old school when DJ LP plays the best hip-hop hits from the nineties. Katch also features live music, from time to time, with local musicians as well as cover bands like Bon Journey, who play the hits made famous by Bon Jovi and Journey.

Starters range from pork dumplings, calamari, Mac and cheese with maple bacon and tater tots to Katch's signature hand-cut fries with Brooklyn brown ale gravy and cheese curds. Katch's kitchen is known for their outrageous wings and ribs. Whether you opt for traditional style of boneless, sauce your wings up. You may choose from mild, medium, hot honey chipotle or "not your father's root beer BBQ sauce". For a buck more they will mix a little cognac or cinnamon whiskey into your BBQ.

The between the buns section of Katch's menu features such diverse and delicious selections as Fish and chips, a grilled Buffalo chicken sandwich, Beef sliders on a pretzel bun and the Cali burger, a savory patty topped with guacamole, pico de gallo, pepper jack cheese and cilantro-lime aioli.

On tap beer favorites include Rockaway brewery, Big Alice, Finback, Barrier and Gun Hill, just to name a few. Take a break from the craft beer and try one of the bar's cocktails. They are good! Two of the most requested are the white chocolate raspberry Martini and  the refreshing grapefruit Martini.

Katch in Astoria opened in May 2013 with one goal in mind: to serve the good people of Astoria & beyond exactly what they want. Whether it be hoppy beer, tasty cocktails, or a quality meal made fresh & in-house, Katch has it for you in a timeless, yet modern setting.

Queens has a rich history of beer appreciation, as it was once a pre-prohibition hub for breweries, while also home to European-style beer gardens, both old & now new. Thus, we compiled a drink menu brimming with brews from the five boroughs, cross-country, & across the pond too. We’ve marked off territory on those two full pages of the menu for both beer hounds and beer geeks alike, with selections from Captain Lawrence, Samuel Adams, & Dos Equis, as well as Lagunitas, Goose Island, Dogfish Head, even Huyghe—brewer of the popular Delirium Tremens.

All 50 of our lines tap strictly craft beers that are in constant rotation with 5 Kurrent Attractions that change monthly and 45 others updated every 90 days. We also offer buckets of your all-time favorite bottles. Our expert mixologists contrived the Kocktail menu, which now features many classics with a Katch twist. For example, the Katch 22: a traditional cosmopolitan with pomegranate, topped off with Angry Orchard Hard Cider & served in a 22-oz. glass. All of these soothing beverages can be enjoyed indoors or in the comfort of our intimate boutique Katch Kourtyard that spans 4,500 square feet—the perfect party spot for you & your suds-centric friends & family.

With great attention to detail, & the tireless efforts of Executive Chef Chad Bowser, we put together a diverse, extensive, & high-caliber menu, filled with fresh ingredients. Chad’s credentials include the Manhattan spots Gastorate & Barraca, as well as one of California’s top studio catering companies, Feast, where he would conceive dishes of a wide variety, pulling from a myriad of cuisines for prolific clientele. We pushed the limits of what a local bar can serve, including baskets of Buffalo Wings, but also Risotto Rice Balls, for starters. We have a mound of hearty Nachos available, along with German Pretzels, Mini Brats in a Blanket, & even Shock Top Chicken Tenders soaked in our signature Shock Top Raspberry Brine with house-smoked apple aioli.

The Katch menu also sports plenty of burgers, sliders, sandwiches, & vegetarian options too. The ridiculous 4-6 Pastrami Sandwich’s meat is brined for 4 days, then smoked for 6 hours & topped with Gruyere cheese & beer mustard. Our Bleu Boy burger has become a fan favorite, along with the Pulled Smoked Duck Sliders. The Arrogant Skirt Steak, marinated in Stone Arrogant Bastard Ale, will fill your carnivorous cravings, while the Greek 12 salad with traditional Mediterranean fixings is available for greenies. And none of our ingredients are ever frozen, ensuring that you experience unmatched flavor.

Katch has plenty of booths & tables fit for small groups of friends, but you can also contact one of our Katch managers to find out how we can work with you to put together a personalized party package for a big birthday, promotion, or anniversary as well.

Queens is the most ethnically diverse urban area in the world, & Astoria in particular has become an attractive settling spot for transplants from all over America. So we had to imagine the most amazing of possibilities for a bar. With all of these amenities, plus 60 flatscreens worth of entertainment, we’re proud of what we’ve accomplished at Katch Astoria.

We hope to Katch you soon in Astoria, New York City.

Katch has like 60 different beers on tap with great happy hour pricing. It is huge sports bar and I love the energy and vibe. I never ate here just drank light beers and watched sports with my boyfriend. I'm not into sports but I don't mind hanging here when we go.

This is he best sports bar in the Astoria hands down!! I go here for all the UFC fights. In the summer I love their outdoor space and their food is more like good restaurant food. Don't easily find quality food in most sports bars.

Katch has so many flat screen televisions showing sports it doesn't really matter where you sit. I enjoy he outdoor area when the weather is nice and you can even view sports on the patio. I like to try different beers and their selection is endless. First couple of times I did not try the food. When i decided to try something i was surprised! Great place to get quality food as well.
