Resilient is the word that comes to mind when we think of our city. We are New York strong and there is nothing that we cannot come back from. Where there is a will there's always going to be a way.

After all, we are a city of immigrants. Adversity and overcoming seemingly impossible odds is nothing new to us. You could say that it's in our DNA.

Over the past year, though, Covid-19 has certainly tested our mettle. We had never seen anything like this pandemic before. Like Mike Tyson in his prime, Covid was poised for a knock-out punch!

However, when things were at their worst, that's when New Yorkers rolled up their sleeves, kicked it into high gear and fought back... hard!

We looked after our neighbors; helped the elderly and those most at-risk; cheered on the fantastic first responders and essential workers as well as supported our local shops and businesses.

Even though we are still not out of the clouds yet, there is a reason for cautious optimism as we turn a corner into the New Year. Some much-needed sunshine appears ready to come out, just over the horizon.

But, that's no reason to let your guard down. Keep social distancing whenever you can and be respectful of other people's space.

Please continue to do your part by being kind to others. A seemingly small gesture can be game-changing to those in need during these trying times.

And, whether you call Astoria, Bensonhurst, Williamsburg, Chelsea, Soho, or another of the city's vibrant neighborhoods home, make sure that you SHOP LOCAL.

Small businesses are the lifeblood of our town. The hard-working men and women who own the coffee bar down the street, that charming boutique around the corner, or your favorite vegetable market, butcher shop, hair and nail salon, bodega, restaurant, gym and liquor store are depending on YOU!

The entrepreneurs, creators and crafters among us are fighting with every ounce of their being to keep the dream alive. Financially and emotionally, Covid-19 has taken an incredible toll on the small business owner; not just here in NYC but all over America.

Now, more than ever, WE have to step up for them.

There has never been a better time to get out and explore everything that your community has to offer in terms of special promotions, happy hour deals, prix-fixe menus and the like.
