A celebration of the extraordinary connection between pets and their parents. Small-batch, beautifully designed matching apparel and accessories that you, together with your cat or dog, can wear with pride.
Anyone who is a proud and loving parent to a cat or dog knows that their little or not-so-little fur baby is FAMILY in every sense of the word. There is quite literally nothing that you won't do to make them as happy and healthy as possible. No matter how hard your day at work has been or how topsy-turvy your love life is going, you can always count on your furry companion to shower you with licks, kisses and plenty of unconditional love. Yes, there's no doubt about it; a pet makes the world a better, brighter place to be. So, that raises the question: "What do you get a dog or feline who already has just about everything? "Okay, we know that you spoil your pet and that's perfectly alright! After all, they don't mind a bit. And neither do you.
When shopping for a gift for your pet, consider going a bit outside the box and purchasing something as unique as your cat or dog's personality, as well as the unbreakable bond you share. You'll find all that and more at PAWSBURY LANE, an online shop that is all about you and your pet. Founded by Christine, a young entrepreneur who is a mom herself to a dog, Charlie, and a feline, Riley, Pawsbury Lane offers a variety of thoughtfully designed, matching wearable apparel and intriguing accessories that can be worn by both pets and their owners.
A very young company, Pawsbury Lane, officially launched in December 2023. However, the brand's craft market debut came just this past May when Pawsbury Lane showcased their products at LIC SPRINGS. It was a real joy for Christine to meet other pet families in person, share her brand's accessories and capture the moment for posterity with photos of people and their pets wearing Pawsbury Lane's colorful array of scrunchies, headbands, caps, mini-scarves, bandanas and bows. The brand has just launched a vibrant new collection: LOVE IN COLOR, which celebrates joy, persity and self-expression with playful rainbow heart prints - and it is just in time for Pride Month. Accessories from this collection are on sale now at the American Kennel Club Museum of the Dog. For our nation's birthday, July 4th, Pawsbury Lane will introduce FREEDOM GARDEN, a collection inspired by the colors of Independence Day. Be on the lookout for dog and cat collars and leashes in Pawsbury Lane's signature prints. They are coming soon. Christine designs all prints and accessories in-house with the philosophy that they should be wearable, practical and comfortable for pets and their owners.
Aplez.com recently had the chance to speak with the brand's founder at NYC Bagel & Coffee House in Ditmars, Astoria. Articulate and charming, Christine began the interview by revealing the origin of the name Pawsbury Lane. "It all comes down to a personal experience. The idea came from Asbury Park, New Jersey, where my dog Charlie, who is a mix of Australian Shepherd, Collie and Border Collie, reunited with his brother after being adopted separately through Muddy Paws Rescue. That reunion of the litter brothers brought our two pet families together and the connection inspired the name. Pawsbury Lane is a place filled with big, beautiful moments between pets and their owners; each wearing accessories that reflect their vibe, share their special moments and tell their unique story. It's about capturing that extraordinary connection through small, meaningful details that say, "You belong with me. "
Before starting Pawsbury Lane, Christine was an educator working with children for over a decade. One of the first items she designed for her brand was a headband and there's a special reason why. "Headbands were always my go-to accessory and they never failed to spark joyful conversation in the classroom. I've always been drawn to family photos. Friends around my age often show me beautiful pictures of themselves with their kids, all dressed up in matching outfits. That's when the lightbulb went on. There is something incredibly touching about that kind of visual harmony. I wanted to bring that feeling to the bond between pets and their people. "
Very hands-on as an entrepreneur, Christine is involved in the smallest detail when it comes to making sure that you will be satisfied with your purchase. As you are certainly aware, cats and canines come in all shapes and sizes, as do their moms and dads. On the Pawsbury Lane website, there is a super-helpful size guide that makes it easy to determine the best fit for your cat or dog. To bring the spirit of each collection to life, Christine personally models the pieces along with Charlie and Riley in their matching accessories. All of the photography is done in-house by Christine's partner. It's one of the founder's favorite parts of the creative process and you can see the images on her website and Instagram. " When designing, I put myself in the shoes of the customer, whether they are shopping for themselves or looking for a thoughtful gift", explained Christine. " That's what inspired the idea for our mailer gift box, a kit that includes accessories for both a person and their pet. It's such a special feeling to receive a gift that shows someone is thinking, not just of you, but of your furry companion, as well. "
Naturally, creatives love all their "babies," as it were. But, we had to ask Christine if she, Charlie and Riley had any particular item of apparel or accessory from Mom's collections that they favored. Christine was quick to answer. " Our personal fave has to be the blue and white gingham from our Gingham Classics Collection because it's so timeless and versatile. Growing up, my mother gave me a box of ribbons for school and, you guessed it, my favorites were the blue and white gingham hair bows that matched my convent girls' school uniform. It's a little nostalgic for me and now, I love sharing that style with Charlie and Riley. "
In addition to shopping at Pawsbury Lane's ONLINE STORE, you will be able to connect with Christine in person at various craft markets throughout the city this Summer and Fall. The line-up includes Culture Lab in Long Island City, the Hudson Yards Colored Colors event and Chelsea Market's Artists & Fleas. Plus, the fabulous and always worthwhile Muddy Paws Block Party, set to take place in October. Christine frequently brings her dog Charlie along to events, so you will probably have a chance to meet this adorable guy. Lucky You!
Speaking of Charlie, Christine adopted him at a Muddy Paws adoption event in early 2023. This writer had the privilege of meeting Charlie at the interview and he is one big, lovable dog. You just want to hug and pet him. So, it's hard to believe that when Christine brought Charlie home, he was a tiny fluffball of a puppy, small enough for his new momma to carry in her arms.
Christine put into words the strong feelings that she has for Charlie. "I like to call him my magic mutt. Charlie has grown into a big, adorable goof and people are often surprised by his size. I like to say, "He's as big as his heart ", or he is my sweetest extension."
However, when chicken nuggets go missing from the kitchen table, Christine knows who the culprit is: Riley the cat, not Charlie. Riley came into Christine's life when he was three years old. Christine had recently moved to NYC and was feeling a tad lonely, even though she loved the vibrancy of her new hometown. Venturing over to the ASPCA in Manhattan, Christine met Riley (who was then named Austin), and was immediately smitten. "Riley was the perfect fit as I navigated this exciting new chapter in my life," said Christine. "He has such a unique personality. Some parts of the day, he can be very affectionate, curling up on my lap, showering me with kisses. Yet, other times, he prefers to be left alone. Riley is a dog trapped inside a cat's body. He knows how to sit, lie down and even roll over," laughed Christine.
The two fur babies get along great together. They complement each other personality-wise. One thing's for certain: it's never boring in Christine's household.
" Seeing them side by side is endearing, especially with the contrast in breed and size, " added their pet mom. " Riley and Charlie cuddle up in the car on road trips and share their days... although, to be honest, everything happens on the cat's terms. " Riley, no doubt about it, is the boss cat. In the end, though, as most pet moms and dads would agree, it's Riley and Charlie's world. Christine is just living in it, relishing every day.
Aplez.com was founded on the premise of promoting small local businesses and entrepreneurs. So, prior to the conclusion of our interview, we had to ask Christine if there were any businesses that she would like to give a shout-out to. Turns out, she has so many faves she didn't know who to leave out. " One of our favorite hang-outs," revealed Christine, "is DK Public. It's a charming, cozy spot in our neighborhood that's family-owned, pet-friendly and the staff always makes me and my dog feel so welcome. When the weather's nice, we love grabbing some drinks and indulging in Charlie's special treat- French fries, while sitting outside, people-watching and soaking up the laid-back vibes. We've also had some great times at other dog-friendly spots like 4747 in LIC, where the seafood platter and bottomless brunch are simply amazing; Trestle, Astoria, for their delicious, juicy burgers and Las Catrina's, a Mexican bar and eatery with the best tacos and margaritas around. "
During our conversation, Christine asked that we give a special mention to a couple of organizations that mean a great deal to her; ones that other pet parents should check out. DOZO DOG, located in LIC, is truly a safe space and a daycare place for dogs. When Charlie was a young puppy and Christine and her partner had to be away on a trip or could not work from home that day, Charlie spent time at Dozo Dog, where he socialized with the caring staff as well as with other canines. The time that Charlie spent there made a big difference in his overall development. LIC FERAL FEEDERS is also near and dear to Christine's heart. They are a dedicated cat rescue organization whose volunteers work tirelessly to feed, care for and TNR (trap-neuter and return feral felines, giving them a better chance at a healthier and happier life.
Christine's goals for the future include building her brand and, perhaps, one day having a brick-and-mortar business where pet families can come together, shop and socialize. Right now, though, she is living the dream with Pawsbury Lane, helping felines, dogs and their families look their very best while uplifting their spirits. Good Vibes abound at Pawsbury Lane.
