LisaBarelli

Lisa

Lisa went to yoga classes for many years before finding yoga as a practice, when she started taking Anusara-inspired classes in 2004. A precise focus on healthy alignment and a truly uplifting philosophy made the practice a part of her life, both on and off the mat. She continued her studies in earnest at the World Yoga Center in 2006, immersing herself in the physical practice and beginning a meditation practice. She completed WYC’s Anusara Immersions I-III in 2009 and Teacher Training in 2010. Lisa is a Yoga Alliance 200-hour registered yoga teacher and has studied extensively with WYC Director and longtime meditation teacher Rudrani Farbman Brown and senior Certified Anusara Teacher Jackie Prete, including therapeutic applications of yoga. Lisa has supplemented her studies in anatomy and therapeutics with Ellen Saltonstall and in meditation with Swami Shankarananda of Melbourne, Australia (formerly of Brooklyn). Lisa creates a nurturing environment in her classes, both in the precision of her alignment instructions and the care with which she addresses her students’ inner experience. Teaching yoga allows her to actively and regularly honor the light of awareness that lives in all of us, and for this, Lisa offers gratitude to all her teachers, students and mentors alike.

Susie Davis

Susie

In her early teenage years, Susie noticed the calm that resulted from practicing yoga when her dance teachers integrated some of the postures into their classes. Intrigued, she continued to practice as a means of relaxation and exercise. It wasn’t until a few years ago when she was introduced to the hot room, various other styles of yoga, along with the powerful effects of meditation, that yoga became a daily practice, a passion and truly changed her life. After teaching elementary school for over five years, Susie decided to further pursue this passion by completing the 200 Hour Vinyasa Teacher Training at The Yoga Room. She became certified in January of 2012 and is extremely thankful for all the amazing people who supported her throughout her journey. Her classes incorporate her love for music and encourage you to explore your potential, embrace where you are and welcome what the practice brings to you.

Myda El-Maghrabi

Myda

Even after practicing yoga for over 10 years, Myda never thought she’d end up a teacher. She began to consider it as a path when she was studying acupuncture. Observing patients in her first year, she realized how disconnected people felt from their own bodies and disempowered in their own healing. After constantly recommending patients to yoga, she decided to leave acupuncture and devote herself to teaching. Myda received her first 200-hour training in Vinyasa in 2009 at the Nosara Yoga Institute. However, having for years been drawn to the beautiful, life-affirming practice of Anusara, she returned to her beloved teacher, Tara Glazier, and completed her Level 1 Teacher Training at Abhaya Yoga in 2010, six years after her first Anusara Immersion. She has advanced her training in therapeutics with Martin Kirk and workshops with Anusara’s founder, John Friend, and continues to study with Tara, Eric Stoneberg and Elena Brower. She is forever indebted to the practice of yoga and its amazing teachers for all she has been given and hopes she can share it with those who will join her in the path of growth, laughter, life and love.

Liam

Liam discovered Tai Chi at the age of 18. He was originally interested in tai chi as a martial art but soon found that tai chi also includes QiGong, a yoga-like Chinese meditation that improves mental focus, physical strength and flexibility. About six years ago Liam also started practicing yoga and noticed the similarities between the practices. He decided to combine the benefits that each practice has to offer. Liam is a devoted teacher who shares his enthusiasm to work harder and with greater confidence. His goal is to offer his students the traditions, techniques, relaxation and health that he has attained through tai chi and yoga

Ava Alberti pic

Ava

Ava Alberti is a NYC-based yoga instructor trained  in the style of Vinyasa Yoga. She is a graduate of the Sonic Yoga Center for Yoga Studies and teaches Vinyasa Flow Yoga posture, breathing techniques and meditation. Ava completed her 200-hour teaching certification at Sonic Yoga in Manhattan, under the direction of Lauren Hannah, Johanna Aldrich and Jeffrey Duval. Since her 200-hour training she has also began studying Pre-Natal and Shakti Flow styles of yoga. Ava is inspired by the cyclical, wave-like nature of Vinyasa Yoga and its healing abilities that has helped her to grow and evolve over the years. She first came to yoga as a fun activity, but ended up having a monumental mind/body experience that left her coming back for more. After six years of practicing she decided it was time to share this with others.  Ava strives to give this inspiration and connection to her students through her teaching.

Farhana

A native of Astoria, Farhana found yoga as a therapeutic means to deal with a neck injury. It was through her Vinyasa practice that she was able to heal, but also found herself attracted to yoga’s spiritual teachings. After realizing Asana's deeper effects, Farhana decided to deepen her practice and bring yoga to others by becoming a teacher, receiving her 200-hour certification through the Giving Tree Yoga Studio in 2012. The following year, she decided to advance her studies with Will Duprey, specializing in classical Hatha Yoga concepts.  Through her studies with Will, she found herself drawn to pranayama and meditation, as well as a new view on Asana practice. Farhana assists yogis in breaking free of limitations of the mind, while bringing awareness to energetic effects of their practice.

Kate Sortino

Kate

Kate was introduced to Vinyasa Yoga in Key West, Florida, while taking a break from her acting career in NYC. What first started out as a hobby quickly turned into a regular practice. Amazed by the physical and mental transformation yoga had created, she decided to head back to New York and deepen her practice even further. Kate completed her 200-hour teacher training at Yoga High on the Lower East Side in 2010, and will be going back to complete her 500-hour training this January. Kate’s classes combine deep attention to breath, setting positive intentions and creative sequencing. A huge music fan, Kate incorporates music into all her classes. She hopes that through yoga her students can find an openness to positivity in their own lives, creating more focus, love and joy in everything they do.

Melissa Trentadue

Melissa

Melissa is a Mental Health Counselor and is in love with the healing aspects of yoga and its ability to transform the heart, mind, body and soul. Inspired by her deep love of poetry, music, yogic philosophy and breath, Melissa strives to create a blissful and soulful class for all the beautiful humans who come her way. Having studied at Laughing Lotus Yoga Center under the direction of Dana Flynn, each class is not just a physical devotion within our bodies, but a spiritual dance and journey on the mat. After being inspired by the Asana, Melissa explored deeper in her heart and found herself at the seat of Kelly Morris and The Conquering Lion family, where she is continuing her studies, focusing deeply on the feminine divine and the inner teachings of Tibetan Buddhism and shamanism.

Olga

Olga attended one of her first yoga classes when she was pregnant with her first child. She always challenged herself physically, either by competing in gymnastics, acquiring a black belt in karate or running in the NYC Marathon. Yet she longed for something to help her live life on a deeper level. This was unknown to her at the time, initially being mostly concerned with the physical aspects of yoga. However, she soon experienced the transforming effects that follow meditation and a diligent yoga practice. Olga was drawn to Anusara Yoga due to its heart-oriented themes and attention to precise alignment. This path led her to Shri Yoga for three immersions, followed by a 200-hour teacher training with Tara Glazier at Abhaya, as well as obtaining Prenatal certification from Kula Heart Yoga under the guidance of Sue Elkin. In addition, Olga has been working as a Physician Assistant for over 17 years delivering babies for a major NYC hospital. She continues to remain fascinated by the miracle of creation and spirituality. As a result, Olga’s medical background, coupled with her yoga practice, has manifested her strong belief that the practice of yoga during pregnancy promotes bonding with the baby, and provides courage and strength to mothers throughout labor, delivery and motherhood. Olga’s regular and Prenatal classes are precise yet playful, engaging both the body and mind while listening to great music! Her hopes are simply to help you feel better after attending a class, and to teach you the tools that will help you live a more joyful life.
