Coffee in Astoria - Crisp and full of traditional Greek flavor are the delicious "Loukoumades" served at Cafe Boulis in Astoria, located at 30-15 31st avenue. For the uninitiated, Loukoumades are the Greek version of a donut. 

But, they are so much more than that. We guarantee that you have never tasted anything like this at Dunkin Donuts or other chain donut shops!

At Cafe Boulis the loukoumades are home-made on the premises. You may order a small (5 pieces) or large portion (12 pieces). Each order comes with your choice of two toppings. All are scrumptiously decadent. Toppings include...powdered sugar, honey, chocolate syrup, cinnamon,  chopped walnuts, sour cherries or agave nectar. The Loukoumades go great with a hot cup of Boulis"organic coffee, cafe' au lait, caramel macchiato or espresso.

And, of course, they offer traditional Greek coffee. You'll never get tired of their loukoumades, but, Boulis also has spinach pie, cheese pie, loukanikopita (hot dog) as well as an assortment of bagels, muffins, and chocolate/butter croissants to tempt your appetite. You can't miss this cute little shop  right on 31st avenue and 30th street, their eye-catching orange and white "cafe Boulis" sign with coffee cup, lets you know where the "good stuff" is.

Inside the shop, there is a long wall ledge and seats where one can sit down and enjoy a brief respite from the biting winds, snow and ice.  When the weather warms up, the nice owners at Boulis place a few chairs and tables outside the door to create a "pop-up" sidewalk cafe.

Greek yogurt is sweeping the Nation, appearing on supermarket shelves everywhere. Cafe Boulis in Astoria has both plain and assorted flavors of authentic Greek style yogurt. That got me  thinking. How about pairing up a basic, plain loukoumades with some Greek yogurt?
