Just a few feet from the hustle and bustle of Vernon-Jackson, on a quiet side street is a gem of an LIC Mexican restaurant, Casa Enrique. The rustic store front facade and flag adorned with a Sombrero, lets hungry residents know that they have arrived at this small but comfortable restaurant, that is as charming on the inside as it appears on the outside.

And Casa Enrique's authentic Mexican food exceeds expectations. The perfect place to celebrate a Birthday Fiesta, an anniversary or a girl or guy's night out, Casa Enrique's cuisine stays true to Mexican tradition but with a modern twist. Casa Enrique's menu has a section titled Antojitos, which translates to cravings. You will definitely crave more of these dishes, especially the beef meatballs in chipolte tomato sauce. The chef offers patrons a tantalizing selection of tacos including slow-cooked brisket, pork marinated in chiles and pineapple and pescado, the market fish of the day.

Desserts by Case Enrique

You really can not go wrong with any of the well-prepared entrees. However, one dish that caught our eye was the Mole De Piaxtla. Originating in Puebla, Mexico, this dish is chicken and rice. But it is the Mole sauce that captures the imagination. The sauce is prepared using a mix of dry peppers, almonds, raisins, plantain, sesame seeds and chocolate.

At Casa Enrique, dessert is the sweeetest way to top off your meal. Their flan is tasty and authentic. The custard is comfort food at it's most inviting. Another choice is the Pastel De Chocolate, cake with home-made vanilla ice cream.
You will find Casa Enrique at 5-48 49th Avenue in Long Island city. The number to call, so you can reserve a table, is (347) 448-6040.
