Art Galleries are opening all over the neighborhood while many stores, cafes and coffee bars are giving local artists the chance to exhibit their works. There has never been a better time for a sculptor or painter to call the vibrant communities of Astoria and LIC, home.

One of the artists who has played a huge role in putting our neighborhood on the arts scene map is Alice Lipping. Working out of Studio 34 in LIC, Alice is a multi-faceted and critically acclaimed artist, who is breaking boundaries and redefining just what it means to be a " painter". Her work is both visually captivating and intellectually intriguing. When you first glance at one of Alice's paintings you are drawn to the colors that appear on the canvas, as well as the various forms and textures.

When you just can't stop looking at a piece of art, whether it be a sculpture or painting, then you know that you have found something that is well worth your time.
Alice has a BFA in painting from Hunter College and has had her art exhibited in a multitude of galleries, group shows, and public spaces.
Celebrity chef Tom Colicchio invited Alice to show her paintings at his restaurant Craft.  A few years ago, Alice participated in a live painting performance for the Food Network's " Wine Down Art Show" in Atlantic City during the annual Food and Wine festival.

Alice has sold works to private collectors and corporations all over the world including the Ok-Kasei color plastic company in Osaka, Japan.
Closer to home, the owners of Astoria Park Wine and Spirits have showcased Alice's  paintings two years in a row, at their local artists' exhibition series.
You will be able to see some of Alice's newest creations at The Plaxall Building in Long Island City, through February 11th.
A long-time resident of Astoria, Alice enjoys giving back to the community and is always interested in engaging with our kids, helping to broaden their horizons and outlook on life, through art.

Alice describes herself as a non-representational color painter who works on both a large scale and smaller scale format in order to achieve a variation of styles and techniques.
Her work is all about using minimal color as well as the process of layering to achieve a sense of depth and movement in the painting. This deceptively simple process fuses the act of painting with different materials to produce texture. This adds yet another element that draws the viewer into the work. Some of Alice's  paintings are based on photographs she has taken of outdoor scenes and distressed spaces and buildings.

Always willing to explore the unknown and take risks, Alice has recently added a new " paintbrush" to her artistic tools. Alice is currently working on a series of digital paintings utilizing a digital painting  App on her IPad.
Every year, Alice also creates Holiday magic, with a collection of specially-designed ornaments that are perfect for decorating your tree. These ornaments feature Alice's signature minimalist color blend, combining tradition with a chic, avant-garde look.

Apartments in New York all tend to be rather small and cramped. But, that doesn't mean that they have to be drab. Add some color to your living space with a painting or ornament by Alice Lipping.  Treat yourself to the magic that a work of art can create. It is the gift that will keep on giving for years to come.
