Arepas Grill in Astoria is an authentic Venezuelan restaurant and the passion of owner Riccardo. In Venezuela, having a meal is a very social occasion.

Whether you're eating at home, in a café or a restaurant, conversation rules the table and your food is meant to be truly savored and enjoyed. It is in this spirit that Riccardo founded Arepas Grill in July 2013.

Venezuelan food owes a great deal to the traditional meals cooked by the regions indigenous peoples as well as European cuisine. There are strong elements of Italian, Spanish, Portuguese and French cooking in Venezuelan cuisine. In fact after Italy, Venezuelans are the second highest pasta consumers in the world. The Arepa is a staple of Venezuelan cuisine that starts off as a gluten-free flatbread made out of ground corn. The cornbread is then grilled or fried and stuffed with a variety of ingredients. Riccardo offers over 20 variations of the best-tasting Arepas and you'll want to try them all!

Varieties range from beef, pork, chicken and seafood to vegetarian. Riccardo uses only the finest meats and freshest vegetables.

The Tuna Arepa is the definition of gourmet. It is stuffed with white tuna fish, chopped tomatoes, onions, cilantro and is topped with avocado and truffle butter. The Pabellon is a meal in itself. The stuffing blends shredded chicken, black beans and grated white cheese with fried sweet plantains.

The signature Catira Arepa consists of slow-cooked chicken with onions, garlic, celery and bell peppers with a topping of yellow cheddar cheese. Additional neighborhood favorites are the Mushroom Arepa and the Pabellon Criollo. It's a healthy platter of tender beef, white rice, black beans and fried plantains, all generously sprinkled with grated white cheese. Arepas Grill has some very nice Happy Hour specials as well: Fri from 4-7 PM. All beers and wine are $3 and the memorable mango or passion fruit sangria is $5.
