Custom Jewelry - NYC

Jewel Dripped - LIC Food and Flea Market. Handmade, unique new designs, custom and fashion jewelry in New York. The Words "Jewel Dripped" conjure up images of actresses walking the red carpet at a Hollywood premiere, or diplomats' wives wearing their finest to a steak dinner at the White House.

But, for all intents and purposes, being Jewel Dripped is not at all ostentatious or high society, but it is definitely glam. Jewel Dripped is modern, unique handcrafted jewelry that is dripping with gems and vintage treasures. Jewel Dripped tastefully makes a fashion statement that creates compliments as well as long-lasting memories.

Kathy Baer, founder and designer of Jewel Dripped, brings you the first word and best stop in jewelry shopping. Kathy's extremely creative concept has redefined your typical jewelry shopping experience. Recently, we sat down with Kathy, the entrepreneur and craftswoman behind Jewel Dripped to find out more about her fashion venture.

We met at Create Café, on 30th Ave., which was an appropriate venue to host someone as stylish and creative as Kathy. Over an iced green tea, Kathy told me that her mission is to provide her valued clients with high-quality, colorful items at a reasonable price. In between sips of fresh fair-trade organic coffee, we asked Kathy about her customer demographics. She explained that her jewelry speaks to all ages and economic groups. Several of her designs are appropriate for guys to wear, as well. If you can carry the "look," then it's for you.

Kathy aims for an aesthetic that is well-structured in design, yet edgy. Inspiration can come from anywhere. Whimsical designs emerge, as well and Kathy loves the creative process.

Jewel Dripped will definitely resonate with your multifaceted personality. A typical piece of jewelry can take many hours to create since it depends on the shape of the piece and size of the various colors involved.

Keeping in mind potential allergies, Kathy uses titanium in her work. With Kathy it is all about her clients. One of Kathy's favorite TV shows is "Say Yes to the Dress," about brides and their sometimes interfering families, shopping for the big day at New York's famed Kleinfeld's Salon.

Kathy mentioned this TV viewing guilty pleasure because she recently was asked by a client to design an elaborate necklace for her wedding day. Our talented jewelry maven said that she felt privileged to play a part in the bride's wedding and saw designing an appropriate piece of jewelry as a creative challenge.

After all, the necklace has to please the bride, first and foremost, but it should also leave a favorable impression on the guests.

A former librarian, Kathy has brought her creativity and skill to over 300 pieces of quality and affordable jewelry. Late this summer, Kathy and Jewel Dripped won the award for best jewelry at the celebrated Long Island City Flea and Food Market.

Sample designs that catch the eye but won't break your pocketbook include roses and aquamarine, which is a Victorian-style shell necklace, a really glam Swarovsky-style necklace or a cute and stylish elephant on a necklace, complete with a 24k wire and a ruby.

During our conversation, Kathy told us that she could not be happier. She loves exploring different designs and getting to know her customers. Personality plays a huge part in helping a client decide which piece of jewelry will shine brightest and reflect their sense of style.

Besides jewelry design, Kathy is passionate about animals; most notably her dog Twiggy. A long-time Astoria resident, Kathy enjoys walking Twiggy around the neighborhood. We had the privilege of meeting Twiggy at a street fair a while back, and can say that she is a lovely and very friendly dog.

In addition to the wonderful jewelry that she has for sale, Kathy can also customize a locket with poetry, a personal keepsake photo of someone you love or your gem birthstone. There is no end to Kathy's ingenuity and imagination.

Our meeting gave us a keen insight into the dedication and hard work that goes into handcrafting a precious piece of jewelry that will soon become a part of someone's life.
