Pizza Astoria - Best Slice

Pizza Astoria - Best Slice

Best Pizza in Astoria, NY. Now Astoria can join every other American city claiming to make the best pizza you'll ever eat, from deep dish to thin Neapolitan.

It’s a point of civic pride, especially in cities with large Italian-American populations. Each region of our great nation, from the West Coast to the Louisiana Bayou to the Midwest has its own individual “take” on secret ingredients that make a great slice. Pizza has come a long way from its humble origins as a quick, cheap meal for prisoners languishing inside the jails of the kingdom of Naples. During the heyday of immigration in the late 19th century, the first pizzerias were established in New York and Chicago. A century later, pizza is a vital part of our American culture and culinary tradition.

Although every city, undoubtedly, has something good to offer about their pizza, most foodies and critics agree that Chicago and New York are hard to beat when it comes to making the perfect pie. With a respectful nod to our friend and Chicago native Joe Morelli, we would have to say that a Big Apple slice tops the Windy City’s deep dish, anytime. A big reason why New York Pizza has no peer is the competition among our own neighborhood pizzerias; every pizza shop takes pride in their product. Many are family businesses that span several generations. That competitive spirit elevates everyone’s game. And nowhere is this more evident than in Astoria, home to some of the tastiest and most innovative pizza around. What exactly does make a great Astoria slice?

Whatever your taste is, you can get your pizza fix at Michael Angelo's.

One of their most popular pizzas is the Sophia Loren, which consists of tomato sauce that is made with market fresh tomatoes, mozzarella, garlic and extra virgin olive oil. Sauteed peppers and onions are added to slices of savory sausage and mushrooms to make up Michael Angelo's best selling pizza. There's just enough red sauce and cheese on this pie to complement the different ingredients.

When you come to Michael Angelo's you might want to check out their selection of calzones, like the meatballs with mozzarella and ricotta cheese. They also bake a broccoli and cheese roll that's out of bounds. So delicious! The kitchen delivers big time on fine dining quality pasta dishes, as well.
