Best Brunch In Clinton Hill, Brooklyn

It's hard to top these brunch spots in the entire City, not just in the most beautiful neighborhood in Brooklyn: Clinton Hill.

Soco - Clinton Hill

Their tagline is," So Jazzy, So Brooklyn, so very Soco!" Those words just about sum up the flavorful Southern fusion food, edgy, craft cocktails and unique atmosphere that you'll be treated to when you and your crew come here for brunch or dinner.

When you enter the premises you will be met by the imposing sight of a twenty-foot bar that is anchored by structural beams used to support the six-story building. Nearby is a casual dining space replete with a DJ Booth.

Towards the rear of the establishment is a more formal dining area with banquette seating and a performance space for bands.

With a mix of chic industrial, re-purposed steel beams, warm walnut walls and exposed brick, space is relaxed enough for a casual lunch but also has everything you need for a sexy dinner date.

The ambiance pays homage to Brooklyn's gritty past. Designer Andres Aladin describes the venue as " The Brooklyn Bridge turned into a restaurant".

Chef Kingsley John's delicious menu is an original blend of several culinary and cultural influences; Cajun/Creole, barbecue and soul food. It's a little different but the flavors come together in a very satisfying way.

The chef's goal is to stay true to the spirit inherent in Southern food and use his dishes as a way to bring people together. In the South, much like the Mediterranean culture, enjoying good food is a social occasion. It's not just about fueling up fast and getting on with your day.

At Soco, Brunch is a leisurely affair that is meant to be savored. And you will savor every last bite of apps such as Nola's steamed mussels with Habanero cream along with chicken Andouille sausage, Dragonfly Shrimp and a hearty Creole Gumbo.

Brunch entree selections include organic buttermilk fried chicken and red velvet waffles, strawberry shortcake French toast and their signature omelet, The Clinton Hill Special that is comprised of Andouille sausage, Gruyere cheese, arugula and frizzled onions with home fries.

Another dish that you'll want to try is their sausage with creamy cheddar grits and an over easy egg. The dish is topped with a spicy lobster broth. It is so good!

The festivities don't end with your brunch dish, either. Soco's cocktails will keep your party going and then some. Their sangria is made with white chablis, peach flavored vodka and seasonal fruit.

Get into the down-home New Orlean's way of life with the Mardi Gras. As refreshing as a sangria, but with rum as your base spirit, This cocktail also contains passion fruit and orange juice, pineapple juice, cinnamon and nutmeg.

One of the bar's strongest cocktails is the aptly named Dirty South Side Car. With a sugared rim, your glass holds a blend of Southern Comfort, Rye and lime juice.

Hill Cafe - Clinton Hill

A classic French bistro that also offers chef-owner Samuel Beket Gbongbro's take on traditional American comfort food, Hill Cafe has a quaint, welcoming environment. The ambiance transports you far away from the noise and grit of Brooklyn's streets.

Born and raised in Ivory Coast, Africa, Chef Samuel knew that he wanted to be a chef from very early on.

A graduate of the Culinary Institute of Orleans, Samuel refined his culinary skills at some of the finest restaurants in France and New York, such as Bilbouquet, Paris Match and La Goulue.

A charming and sincere gentleman, chef Sam's charisma and skill in the kitchen are two of this cozy, intimate restaurant's biggest draws. The chef cares deeply that you leave here feeling good about your experience. In the African tradition, Sam feels that you are a guest in his home and everything must be just so.

The bistro room has a personality all its' own. it's a fantastic setting for a date or to celebrate a birthday or romantic anniversary.

However, when you do brunch here, you may want to request a table in their glass-enclosed patio room or, weather permitting, the lush, green backyard garden.

Sisters - Clinton Hill

The cool factor at Sisters, a Clinton Hill favorite, is way off the charts. There is a rustic feel to the place with soft wood tones throughout and glowing natural sunlight, courtesy of a skylight in the main dining room.

You feel as though you are dining inside a bed and breakfast or ski lodge out in the Swedish or Norwegian countryside. The furnishings also have a Scandinavian vibe to them and we're not talking Ikea style tables and chairs, either!

There's a cozy back room where you can catch live music. Sisters have a very diverse line-up of local performers. On Sundays, brunch-goers can catch jazz acts like the Buck and a Quarter Quartet. During the weeknights, Sister's stage is graced by the talented Erika and Joao and Sofie Salonika and the Balkan Brass Session.

When you dine at Sisters, whether it is for brunch or dinner, you'll appreciate the fact that they are extremely careful about the ingredients that the kitchen uses to whip up their delightful dishes.

Having forged some very productive relationships with local farms and purveyors, you can rest assured that all produce is fresh and, whenever possible, organic, as well. Their meats are antibiotic and hormone-free.

Brunch hours are between 10:30 AM and 3 PM, Saturday and Sunday. The extra early start is great if you happen to be an early riser who wants to do brunch and fuel up in preparation for a long day of running errands and going to the gym.

A workout worthy dish is a smoked salmon with goat cheese, roasted beets, fennel and arugula. Your trainer will be proud of you and want the address of your brunch spot.

Another signature brunch dish is the smoked whitefish on toast with avocado and radishes.

They've also got a scrumptious breakfast sandwich that contains scrambled eggs, cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomato and a garlic aioli.

The kitchen has two kinds of French toast to choose from. You can go sweet, with a seasonal compote and fresh whipped cream, or savory. The savory version tops your French toast with pulled pork, scallions, cheddar and a fried egg.

The bar at Sisters adds a very sexy Michelada to the menu of Bellinis, Mimosas and Bloody Marys.

They also mix up a fantastic cocktail called the Infinite Sunset. Rye, Aperol, lemon juice and Lambrusco are the ingredients that make this drink a real game-changer.
